Fever is a condition which causes the body temperature to rise so as to help the immune system fight off a virus. There are many causes of this condition; it could be due to some specified medication that one takes for some other disease or even some kind of stressful situation. In most cases the temperature of an individual’s body rises in response to some kind of flu virus that may have entered the victim’s body. The body raises its temperature to counter the effect of the virus, so that makes fever a kind of defense mechanism the body employs to get rid of the virus, but this defense has his own side effects. Fever is like a double edged sword which does damage to the opponent as well as its wielder, the opponent being the flu or whatever kind of substance that has managed to raise a red flag in the body’s immune system. We are the wielders of this sword and the damage done is the rise in temperature. The rise in temperature is not a problem as long as it is under 103F, but when it crosses that line, then its time to start worrying and also time to take the victim to the hospital where a proper diagnostic can be done and the cause of the fever can be found out and be cured. However, if the temperature is under 103F, then there is not much to worry about, this is because experts say there is no reason to medically lower the temperature if it’s under 103F. Thus, there is no need to go to a doctor unless and until you feel like you are in the North Pole and people can make an omelet on your forehead.
As kids we have always been taught that if your temperature is slightly above 98.6F, it means that you have go0t fever and should take medicines immediately to put an end to it. However, this number is an average and is not the golden number for everyone in the world. Studies have shown that the normal temperature of a person can range from 96.5F to 1000.5F. Everyone in this world cannot have the same temperature and boys generally have a higher body temperature when compared with girls. The only way to find out what your normal body temperature is by reading your temperature every four hours every day for three days. Once you have an idea about your body temperature range, then you will easily be able to figure out when the fever has started in your body and when it has ended.
Always keep in mind that fever is not a disease by itself, it is a reaction of your body to counter any kind of virus that has entered it and that is why it is very important to stay healthy all the time. If you do get sick even with all the precautions you have taken, you have little to worry about as fever is rarely dangerous. Fever generally causes problems when the body temperature soars over 103F and that would be a right time to pay your doctor a visit. However, fever can have a totally different outcome if its victim is a heart patient; this is because even if the body temperature of a heart patient rises by 2F, there is about twenty five percent more strain on his heart as the metabolic rate of the patient starts rising rapidly. Fever is not a very serious issue, if you are living a healthy life. So always stay fit and you will rarely fall sick.
